Stringing Guide

Choosing the right string and tension can make your racket feel completely different. This guide helps you pick the best setup for power, control, comfort, and durability, without the confusion.

TENNIS – String & Tension Basics

What tension does

  • Lower tension = more power + more comfort

  • Higher tension = more control + firmer feel

Quick tennis tension guide

Most players suit one of these:

✅ Power + comfort: 48–52 lbs (22–24 kg)
✅ Balanced all-round: 52–56 lbs (24–25.5 kg)
✅ Control + precision: 56–60 lbs (25.5–27 kg)

If you’re unsure, we usually recommend starting in the middle of your racket’s tension range and adjusting next time.

Which tennis string should you choose?

Here’s the simple version:

Best all-round choice (most players): Synthetic Gut / Nylon

  • Great balance of comfort, power and value

  • Ideal for beginners and casual players

Best for comfort or sore arm: Multifilament

  • Softer and more forgiving

  • Great feel, helps reduce vibration

Best for control & spin: Polyester (“Poly”)

  • Firmer, more controlled feel

  • Best for stronger players who swing fast

  • Not ideal if you want maximum comfort

If you break strings a lot

  • Use a thicker string (more durable)

  • We’ll recommend a hard-wearing option based on how often you play

BADMINTON – String & Tension Basics

Badminton is very sensitive to stringing — even small tension changes make a big difference.

What tension does

  • Lower tension = easier power + bigger sweet spot

  • Higher tension = more control + sharper feel (but less forgiving)

Quick badminton tension guide

✅ Beginner / casual: 18–22 lbs
✅ Intermediate: 22–26 lbs
✅ Advanced / tournament: 26–30+ lbs

Which badminton string should you choose?

Most players fall into one of these:

Durable choice (best for frequent breakages)

  • Thicker string

  • Lasts longer, good for hard hitters and frequent play

Performance choice (best for feel + repulsion)

  • Thinner string

  • More bite, more “pop”, better touch

  • Usually breaks sooner than durable strings

If you’re a beginner, the best upgrade is usually a sensible tension + a reliable all-round string, rather than going super high tension.

SQUASH – String & Tension Basics

Squash tension ranges are usually lower than tennis, and the right setup helps massively with touch and control.

What tension does

  • Lower tension = more power + comfort

  • Higher tension = more control + touch

Quick squash tension guide

✅ Power + comfort: 20–23 lbs
✅ Balanced: 24–27 lbs
✅ Control + touch: 27–30 lbs

Which squash string should you choose?

Squash strings are typically chosen for feel vs durability:

All-round / most players

  • Mid-gauge option

  • Good feel with decent durability

If you want more touch and feel

  • Slightly thinner string

  • Great responsiveness

  • Slightly less durable

If you want more durability

  • Thicker gauge

  • Better lifespan

  • Slightly less feel
